Papa to Musume no Nanokakan first impressions

Papa to Musume no Nanokakan (7 Days of Dad and Daughter) was one of the dramas I was looking forward to for this season, the stupid internet doesn’t go fast enough for me. Well my download finally finished and episode one was good BUT there’s only going to be seven episodes :(. Well, on the plus side, it means I don’t need to download as much. I’m not going to be doing episodic reviews and will be only writing about the series when I feel like it (rarely) so here are my first impressions.

The plot of Papa to Musume no Nanokakan is very Freaky Friday esque. The daughter and the father are on bad terms and while riding the train home from the mother-in-law’s house they switch bodies through a supernatural happening. Aragaki Yui (My Boss My Hero) plays the daughter, Tachi Hiroshi plays the father and Kato Shigeaki (YES, Shige) plays the daughter’s love interest. I’m really bad at names and I don’t know any of the names except for the daughter who is Koume and I’m pretty sure Shige’s character is Kenta or something.

Summary time
Koume and her father used to be close but now find it hard to talk to each other. Koume is a 16 year old High School student who idolises her soccer playing sempai (Kenta) and her father works at a beauty company but feels as though he is ignored by everyone including the taps. Koume goes to karaoke with her friend and some seniors (Kenta) and as he sees her off he appears to have interest in her but her dad is there and asks “Who was that boy?” ^^.

Well the next day go to the grandmother’s place because she was ill but when they arrive it appears that she has magically recuperated, at her place Koume recieves mail from Kenta asking “Are you free on Saturday?”. Koume and the dad go home by train in the morning and the grandmother gives hem magical peaches. An accident happens when they are riding in the tunnel and Koume reaches for her dad as she wants to live till saturday and her father reaches for her as he wants to protect her.

Now at the hospital they both made it and are well but then they find out that they have switched bodies and they try crazy things to go back to normal. Once they arrive home the mum tells them to bathe but Koume will die if her father sees her naked to blindfolds him and washes her body LOL. At dinner the dad (in Koume’s body) feels like beer but can’t have any and Koume (in her dad’s body) doesn’t want any beer. After dinner Koume (in dad’d body) is typing up messages on her phone and Kenta asks her out. Seeing a grown up man jumping around is too funny. Her mum comes in and they lie on the bed, the mum is drunk and get’s a little TOO close but then falls asleep.

So they try to be each other but end up acting weird (with good results). I can’t be bothered to summarize any more. Koume wants to go on the date but the father says no but after the mum talks with both of them he rethinks and says yes. Koume (in her dad’s body) isn’t sure what he will do on the date and follows him.

My thoughts
I really like this drama so far, it’s funny and watching a 40 year old man act as a teenage girl really is good entertainment. Shizuka is there! Tama is too! Also, it helps that Shige is there. Writing about it is hard though and getting who’s in who’s body right is confusing XD.
