Elva Hsiao was first discovered through a singing competition while she was studying in Vancouver. Initially part of the female trio Phenomenon, she started a solo career when the other two members dropped out. Elva has since shot to the top of the music world with her strong voice and catchy R&B tunes. Fans have been waiting a long time for her latest album, which was continuously delayed due to internal changes within her record company, and now it is finally here to please her fans. Entirely recorded in Los Angeles, Elva’s 1087 comes with a touch of retro electro-pop via the passionate tune “Account”. The album also features “Afterwards”, a R&B ballad infused with Indian-inspired sounds. 1087 marks the amount of days Elva has been away from the music industry.
My thoughts
I don’t know about you guys, but I didn’t know who the heck Elva was until I saw this random clip of ‘Confession’ on TV. I googled a bit and ta dah! My fave album/singer for the week was found :D
Confessions is the best song in the whole album and then it’s L.o.V.e (in my opinion) Confessions is a catchy, girly, pop type of song and it’s been a mega hit! I know all the whole song off my heart now and I’ve been singing it in the shower ever since == Afterwards is a slow, tempo song. It’s RnB I guess and it’s pretty emotional if you listen to the lyrics.
Honey Honey Honey is a great song. It has an upbeat pop tune to it while it’s soft and slow. Well after all, Wang Lee Hom composed it so it has gotta be good! Not far is too slow for me, I don’t really like it, it makes me sleepy >< L.o.V.e is niceeee. I think everyone that listens to it will tune in to the L.o.v.e bit. It’s funky, pop-ish, and makes you wanna dance around if you turn it up. Man, Elva’s english is good, probably cause she lived in Vancouver for a few years but yeah.
Free reminds me of a Britney Spears + Pussycat Dolls song. I like it though, it sounds fun and its upbeat-ness makes you wanna dance around again. I like the chorus the best “you know I know you never know” LOL My Boyfriend is another slow song which only uses basic instrumentals like drums, guitar and piano. I really like this song, it’s a break from all those pop songs I guess. I think this is my 3rd fave song from the album. Ahh Spokesperson is unpredictable. The first few seconds gives you the impression that it’s another slow song but as it develops it reminds you of songs in like The Devils Wears Prada and to me it sounds like those S.H.E songs a few years back.
After us reminds me of a break up song. It’s not depressing, don’t get me wrong but it sounds like those songs when your breaking up and you walk away (yeah like those dramas) but it’s nice (if your single and didn’t just break up with your boyfriend) The lyrics are nice, I think it gives off a powerful meaning. Extinguish the lights is another RnB song. I don’t like it that much though, it’s too RnB-ish for me.
You&Me sounds refreshing for some reason. Probably cause of the instrumentals. This song is not too fast and it’s not too slow and it’s pretty easy to sing to. The world that I want starts off sounding like a boring/slow song but as it develops into the chorus it becomes more likable. Crazy love is fun and catchy and is a pretty good song. The world that I want and Crazy love is two song in one with around a 30 second break in between.
Final Judgement
7.5/10. Some songs can be improved on but overall it’s pretty good. I recommend it.
hello, hope you enjoy your next album.
BTW, in case you don’t know already, Crazy Love is a cover of O-Zone’s Dragostea din tei, or the Numa Numa song.
