‘
The Seventh Day’ was a sequel to the 2005 hit ‘Under the Canopy of Love’. Although i disliked ‘Under the Canopy of Love’ and I’m not a fan of cheesy love stories, I gave Seventh a go because I do like abit of tear jerking dramas which was what Seventh was about. However, this series really didn’t lift my not so fond about love dramas feeling.
Note; I’m typing this during a class, so i might get it trouble any moment haha.

Synopsis
Different people have different attitudes to love - even those born on the same day in the same year do not necessarily share the same views. YAU CHI-WING (Cheng, Kevin) and HUI WAI-YAN (Wong Chung Chak,Bosco) were both born on the seventh day of August, but one takes relationships seriously while the other is so money-minded and sees love as a tool to get higher up the social ladder.
The tale begins on the seventh of August, when WING and YAN first encounter their own dream girl on the same island. WING works as a lifeguard on the outlying island. He gets to know pet shop assistant LING KA-YAN (Chow Lai Ki, Niki) by chance and is soon mesmerized by her endearing personality. YAN who works at a coffee shop meets a romance comic artist called WONG CHI-KWAN (Tong Sze Wing, Natalie). Being misled into believing that the girl is from a rich family, YAN decides to chase her. He would never have thought that someone as calculating as himself would end up falling into a love trap.
My Thoughts
I wasn’t really planning to watch The Seventh Day but it appeared on TV and I would watch it during dinner although it didn’t exactly capture my attention in the first couple of episodes. I did however, think that episode 1 was nicely done, it introducted most of the characters and you could see how the two couples meet and their first impressions of each other. Episodes 1-10 was slightly boring imo, i didn’t really pay attention to it until episode 10 onwards, because to me, that was where the ‘real dilemma’ happened.
Kevin and Niki’s relationship was sweet. They had great chemistry and looked really compatible with each other. They both portrayed their characters well but Niki didn’t really look like a cancer patient towards the end. Shouldn’t she have no hair and be super skinny and pale? Or is that just a stereotypical thing? However, she did act convincly when she had those seizures and her crying and emotions should be applauded. I thought Kevin didn’t do his best at the first half of the drama (or was it because he had to act ‘cool’?) but when Niki broke up with him, he completely changed and I thought he did that pretty well. I thought the scenes of Niki+Kevin dating from episodes 15-20 was really sweet and cute. They didn’t know when they were going to be seperated so they cherished and made the most of the time they had together. This was the couple that was more ‘lovey dovey’ and both was serious about love and caused me to leak a few teardrops towards the end.
Bosco and Natalie was the second couple. This was the couple that caused me much laughter and they both did really well in ‘tricking/using each other’ I liked this couple better because this couple is refreshing and the misunderstanding of Bosco thinking Natalie was rich and Natalie using Bosco to gain ideas from her anime work was superb. Bosco’s expressions throughout the time when Natalie was making life hard for him was hilarious, eg, getting him to buy her pads in front of everyone and making him wait for 3hours was a crack up. I think Natalie did an awesome job, this is her first time as a female lead and I really do hope she gets more oppurtunies from TVB despite the average ratings of Seventh (Seventh is a love story which is probably aimed at teens and TVB aimes their dramas that suits most people in a family) In the last couple of episodes when ‘Don’- Bosco Wong figured ‘Sasa’- Natalie Tong was pregnant and how he wanted to protect her was sweet. This couple was a comedy relief and my favourite couple from this drama.
The scenes filmed in Japan was beautiful. There was around 6 episodes altogether which was filmed in Japan and although they dragged on abit, it was still gorgeous. And to my suprise the four leads spoke great Japanese haha. The snow, the love story, the beautiful scenery is defintely a must watch element in Seventh. The supporting cast wasn’t really strong. DDMK and 3J was the friends of ‘Don’ and ‘Sasa’ and encouraged/supported them throughout the drama. ‘Jessica’- Charmaine Li was the thrid party in their relationship (and she’s also part of 3J) and I don’t think her acting is that good. Her crying scenes makes me cringe and the many times how she portrays innocent character gets annoying. I’m not trying to become a rivalry to her fans but I think if she doesn’t improve rapidly, there will be a minimised chance of her becoming a lead actress, maximum a supporting actress. ‘Ah Ching’ - Selena Li was the thrid party in Niki and Kevin’s relationship and although I do like Selena Li and believe she has potential to become a TVB ‘fa dan’ her character annoyed me and her acting was only so-so in this drama.
Overall
An 8 out of 10. Maybe it’s the fact i’m not a sucker for love dramas or maybe this drama doesn’t really appeal to me naturally, but really it’s worth a try if you are into the couples/Japan scenery/tragic love dramas.
