Wonder Girls - The Wonder Years

As a self proclaimed RNB lover I found it difficult to listen to their songs, was it because their vocals were mediocre, was it the song quality or was it that the songs just didn’t work with WG at times and vice versa. Tho others are free to oppose.

Artist:
Wonder Girls
Title: The Wonder Years
Release Date: 2007.09.13
01. I Wanna
02. This Fool
03. Tell Me (Sampling of “Two Of Hearts”)
04. Friend
05. Headache
06. So What (Feat. David Kim)
07. Wishing on a star
08. Move (Feat. Lee Min Woo)
09. Take it all
10. Good Bye
11. Bad Boy
12. Sorry Heart
13. Irony

My Thoughts:
Starting with track one ‘I Wanna’ this track was not a favourite as compared to the other tracks it wasn’t as catchy also vocal wise (I’m not too familiar with names and vocals yet) though I didn’t find it too outstanding song wise it’s more electronic-y but I didn’t really like it I thought they were screaming more.

Followed by ‘This Fool’ it was catchy and I quite enjoyed it, it grows on you after a while and still sticking with the electronic feel in it and vocal wise I prefer this song more than I Wanna. ‘Tell Me’ this track really gets on my nerves sometimes especially when it gets stuck in my head ‘tell me, tell me t-t-t-tell me’ but I won’t lie and say that I don’t like this song cause I do but it would be great for once if every time I listen to this song the words tell me chorus doesn’t get into my head to me. This song has a very disco beat and feel to it tho the music video was to me really weird.

Wonder Girls - Tell Me MV

That ballad I was waiting for! ‘Friend’ as ridiculous as I find the lyrics, the song is quite decent and a little more vocal abilities are shown (seems like ballads do this a lot). The song is slower, more of a mid-tempo and just like any ballads on my opinion.

‘Headache’ I don’t like this song at all, back to the WG electro feeling again. ‘So What’ this track is more bearable that the other upbeat tracks, no techno/electro FTW! I really like the guy’s (David’s) voice in this and the girls vocals have improved muchly there is a certain strong voice in this song that I really enjoyed (sorry don’t know who yet).

“Wishing on a Star’ without a doubt my most favourite track on this album. It did take a while to grow on me considering that I’m a person who changes her mind with a MV, not watching the MV made me appreciate and enjoy the song more because I felt they got to western in this song with the MV being filmed in NY and the melody sounds like a typical western RNB but heck it’s slow and nice with soothing vocals so thumps up from me.

Wonder Girls - Wishing on a star MV

‘Move’ a more laid back track, lazier I guess ‘Take it all’ the girls’ vocals without a doubt improve vocally throughout the album ‘Good Bye’ I don’t get why they keep with the electro feeling throughout the album, I don’t find the song really decent because of that. ‘Bad Boy’ is quite an interesting song with pretty catchy beats they seemed like they were rapping in this song it was good imo.

‘Sorry Heart’ well the song title just made me look forwards to the song cause everyone knows – well those that know me knows that I’m a sucker for good ballads and to be quite honest I was surprised. I somewhat really enjoy the mid-tempo of the song and the girls voices seems to be perfect somewhat with these types of songs.

‘Irony’ not too much of a fan of the song in general maybe the chorus where they say ‘Irony’ other than that not that catchy or great compared to other tracks.

Overall:
I would give them an honest 3/5 considering the facts that I really didn’t enjoy listening to most of their songs but their decent tracks did make up for it.

LOL, not cos you are an SNSD fan rite?

Well SNSD > WG any day, the costumes, hairstyles and their overall image seems (pardon me) a little slutty, but that’s just my two cents.

Still, it was a pretty enjoyable album.

imo maybe thats why people that like ’slutty girls’ go for wg whereas people that like those ‘innocent and cute’ girls go for snsd.

@ mooray: Hey I only gave them one point off what I gave SNSD’s album (I think). Well I couldn’t agree with you more on the SNSD vs WG comment but that’s me being biased. I did have something planned for an SNSD haters/WG diehards that disliked my review but I deleted it. It was an OK album cause compared to SNSD I couldn’t listen to ALL the tracks on their album.

@ selinaa: LOL Selina do you go for slutty girls then? kidding! :D imo really image only matters until a certain extent like a first impression sorta thing. I know heaps of WG fans who just hate SNSD because they’re SNSD’s rivals and vice versa no need to go for image that’s for sure.
