I’ve been lacking numerous posts these days so I wanted to post this up before I get caught up and suffocate with schoolwork. BTW guys, did you notice this is our second best month? Why, because apart from the first month that A.I started (July 2007), this has been our second month with the most amount of reviews. Kay, shall review a new C-pop group that has recently surfaced - Super Junior M.

Super Junior-M is Super Junior’s third official sub-unit after Super Junior-K.R.Y and Super Junior-T, and debuted in China on April 8, 2008 with the release of their first promotional single, “U”, a Mandarin remake of Super Junior’s 2006 best-selling Korean single, “U.” The album was recorded in Korea and took over three months to complete. Henry, a new addition to Super Junior-M, contributed in the album with violin instrumentals while Zhou Mi, also a new addition to the group, composed the lyrics of three tracks.

Track three is a cover of Sandy Lam’s song of the same title, while track twelve is a composition dedicated to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Five tracks in the album are remakes of Super Junior’s previous popular Korean singles.

迷(Me) is the first studio album by C-pop boy band Super Junior-M. Me will hit CD stores in various provinces in China starting April 23, 2008 and Taiwan on May 2, 2008. The album will be released in South Korea on April 30, 2008, which includes three bonus Korean tracks. Different versions of this album will be distributed in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, and other Asian countries.

My Thoughts

Me is a ‘new’ song on this album. It impresses me. It’s upbeat, fun and happy and I can just imagine the MV consisting of the guys dancing around with soppy happy faces. I liked this song the first time I heard it and this is the first song in the album so it will give you an idea of these guy’s Mandarin - I think only 2 or 3 of them can speak Chinese, that’s less than half of the group. Their Chinese should be applaudable, although they still lack abit of pronounciation, it’s nice and can be understood easily for Chinese listeners.

U is their first MV and is a remake of the Korean version. I’ve heard both versions, Chinese and Korean and I like both of them. I think if you grown onto the Korean version, it will take some time to adjust to the Chinese version but it’s nice nevertheless. Donghae and Zhou Mi’s rap sounds awesome too :D And the MV - bunch of vain guys looking at their reflection and the chick is hot. Girl crush much?

I remember listening to Sandy Lam’s At Least There’s Still You. I’ve loved this song ever since I was young. The melody is so infectious. It’s soft and makes great use of the limited instruments. I admit, Sandy lam’s voice sounds better in this song and this song is only so-so sung by SJM but it’s a good attempt by the guys. Ryeowook harmonizing is decent too.

You Are My Miracle - another Super Junior song (Miracle) This song is upbeat, pop and happy. The bridge in the middle is done nicely. Their chinese in here is pretty decent but Ryeowook’s voice here annoys me. Maybe cause it’s too high for my liking? Hangeng and Zhou Mi sounds the best (maybe cause they can speak Chinese fluently?)

Love You Love You is a mid-tempo song, not too pop-ish and not too slow. The tune and rhythm of the song is simple and basic and this is one of my favourite songs in this album. I dislike I Hug Myself, my least favourite song is this album. I don’t know why though. Maybe cause of the lack of instruments and their vocals don’t sound really strong.

Don’t Don is one of the remakes of Super Junior’s song and the whole rhythm aims at rock I guess. Though it fails badly IMO. The song is alright in Chinese (I still think it sounds better in Korean) but I think this is the song that their pronounciation of Chinese is the worse. Maybe cause of the fast beat, fast lyrics and overall ‘rock’ theme.

Marry U is a nice ballad song. Rap is done great :) One of my favourite songs because it sounds great in Chinese as well as Korean and the beat is hypnotizing. Soft, but the speed increases towards the end (rap you see) and this song would make you sing along to the ‘I do’

My Half - I dare to say this song sounds better in Chinese than in Korean. The melody sounds great, the song is upbeat and happy (hence the Korean title - Full Of Happiness) and the bridge is perfect. Chorus is the best as usual although the verses sounds awesome as well. The lyrics are cute btw - it talks about your other half being everything of you.

I disliked Thirst at the beginning but overtime this song has grown onto me. I still believe this song is only so-so, i think the song just lacks a variation of tempo and beats. The beginning of the song sounds great but after that, I gained dissapointment in this song. During the bridge of the song (man, practically all the songs have bridges) I can just so imagine the guys doing some hardcore dance.

This Second gradually climbed it’s way to my top listen list of this album. The rap is seriously good - hey at least I could understand their english, no joke. I betcha for the MV of this song there would be a massive solo part for that Henry guy to play the violin, throughout the whole song you could hear violin, not that I have anything against that. The song’s fast and has a strong element of rock and pop together mixed with a drizzle of r’n'b.

The One is a song celebrating the 2008 Beijing Olympics. I do not have a fetish for anthem songs so this song sounds…bad to me. Well i can understand that, i can’t imaging an Olympic song with 7 guys full hardcore dancing to some fast wannabe rock and pop song.

Overall

8.5/10. This is an enjoyable album - espicially if your sick of the Korean version of Super Junior songs. These guys really tried hard on their Chinese and it pays off. I would give them a 9 but that’s a near perfect and I still think these guys can improve, whether vocally, the song(s) just needs to improve or they should have MORE new songs. Favourties include: Charm, At Least There’s Still You, Love You Love You, My Half and Marry U. Phew, end of a massive long post.
