Don’t particularly like the cover either

Jang Geun Suk is primarily an actor and model but for the men’s cosmetic Black N’ Jean by Etude House he sang the song Black Engine (har-har, witty Koreans and their engrish puns) and debuted as a (temorary?) singer. The song was released as a digital single and there’s only one track to review so I threw in the MV as well.

My Thoughts
From what I’ve seen (Dying Waiting and Hong Gil Dong) I don’t think Jang Geun Suk’s acting is overly impressive but he’s got potential. In the field of music? His voice is nowhere near strong or diverse to carry a song unless the song is catchy or well composed and damn, Black Engine is catchy. Repetitive melody and JGS’ soft (weaaak) voice seem to match the electronic pop song to create an insanely infectious chorus. You know, it’s sort of like a Wonder Girl’s song, the singing isn’t great but how the hell did they create a song that sticks in your head with that voice? This song was playing in my head during a maths exam today!

Onto the MV

Okay then… basically he shaves his non existent facial hair, styles himself, walks around with a funny camera, goes boxing, drives a car and then dances. All in one MV gaizz! So the fangirls will eat this up straight away, as for me I just laugh at it, I didn’t actually go through the whole thing, just fast forwarded. There’s a second version or something but I’m not bothered.

Final Judgment
Song score, 2.5 out of 5, I’d fail it if it wasn’t for the melody that grows on you.
MV score, 2 out of 5, what the hell?
I do hope this is his last stint with singing though, stick to modeling and acting :D
