My Thoughts
Yeh, the album isn’t released until Wednesday but i don’t give a shit, leaks are awesome, let’s stat the review.
The opening track to QoP is Taboo, a track reminiscent of KAT-TUN’s older tracks from BEST OF KAT-TUN. The track has a rather haunting arrangement and instrumental with an aggressive string melody and it’s something we haven’t heard from KAT-TUN in a while. The song ends on an abrupt note, not as sudden as Hikki’s Take 5 but pretty sudden although it does flow VERY well into Keep The Faith. Taboo is a great opening to the album and it’s one of the best songs on the album.
Keep The Faith is the second single from this album AND it’s already been reviewed >>here<<.
After teh two rock songs comes AFFECTION ~Mou Modorenai~ where they all sing with high voices (similar to LOVE from the LIPS single) and it just doesn’t work out for me, they even sound like girls at some point in the song (I think it was Jin) and overall just not memorable
Like their older songs Koki opens HELL, NO with his ridiculous rap (lol). After AFFECTION ~Mou Modorenai~ I’d hate to say but HELL, NO is another only above average song from them but it’s better than the previous song because I like the chorus and bridge and I guess that redeems it from average territory and because Koki tells us to SHAKE OUR ASS.
DISTANCE is the first interesting new song I heard on the album. JUNNO (yes JUNNO) actually opens the song and he’s the main vocalist so vocally it’s not all that great but the actual melody of the song is pretty awesome by my standards because of the haunting strings and piano. It’s a rock ballad but it’s not blaringly loud so plus, plus, plus guys… also is it just me or do they reference themselves in the lyrics?
MOTHER/FATHER is a mid tempo ballad and it’s a little out of place in the sea of rock songs but I guess it’s a good distraction from all the loud music. The ballad isn’t that great to me, their vocals are a little on the bleh side and it’s a little too generic JE.
LIPS was their third single from this album and was reviewed >>here<<
Yorokobi no Uta was the first single from the album and was reviewed >>here<<
When I first heard “un-” I literally screamed out “RUSH OF LIGHT” which is like one of my favourite KAT-TUN songs ever! It’s not a straight forward rock song this time but a softer pop-rock song this time, it’s a general feel good song with a catchy melody and chorus which is something rare from them. While it’s not as great as Rush of Light it’s still pretty good.
OUR STORY ~Prologue~ is another pop-rock song, I really do like KAT-TUN’s pop-rock songs better than their full blown rock songs but this song is yet another one on the generic side which has a pretty annoying chorus if you ask me and vocals which are a little subpar, even coming from them.
Nannen Tattemo is the last of the regular edition tracks. LOL, it’s a funky disco pop song and MARU, not Jin or Kame open it! I love that everyone gets their singing lines which isn’t 1 line (shared) although once again the song is too high for their voices.
The first LE track is SHOT! which opens with brass, it’s awesome, I LOVE THESE SONGS! It’s just a fun feel-good song with a fun chorus, nothing special but it’s great to listen to.
12 o’clock is the next LE track, I keep thinking of that Bill Haley and the Comets song. This song is different from anything they’ve ever done before with a fast paced melody and vocal distortions which definitely make for an interesting song. This song shows how versatile KAT-TUN’s music style is and it’s one of the better songs of the album.
Ai no Command is another rock song after a while and its one of the best rock songs on the album. Rather than being similar to the other songs this one takes a turn back to BEST OF KAT-TUN music – fast paced melodies, catchy choruses and edgy compositions.
Next is the one single track I was most excited about SIX SENSES! I always wondered why it was never properly recorded but now that it is ILU JE! It’s a fun rhythmic song which is fun and catchy all the way through. I slightly prefer the live performances because of the sporadic shouts and “SHUT THE HELL UP GUYS” but this is great too and I have to say, their vocals are at their best in this song.
Final Judgment
4 out of 5, while it’s not their best album (BEST OF KAT-TUN still is) it’s a step up from CARTOON KAT-TUN II YOU. I pretty much loved all the singles and liked most of the album tracks so all is well but if it wasn’t for the Limited Edition trakcs the score would have been something like 3 out of 5 for me.
