Virgin Snow

Virgin Snow was watched immediately after Kisaragi and boy does this movie looks like shit in comparison to the previous movie.

No I didn’t download Virgin Snow because of Lee Jun Ki (since when do I download stuff for him!?), rather Miyazaki Aoi for the win but they both really suck in this movie, yeh, just don’t read this post if you like the movie, I couldn’t care less :D.

Main cast: Lee Jun Ki, Miyazaki Aoi
Genre: pure love, romance
Length: 102 minutes
Released: November 1, 2007

Synopsis
Min, a Korean boy, moves to Japan with his father who is a professor. One day at a local shrine, he meets Nanae, a beautiful Japanese girl with stunning eyes who is aspiring to be a painter. Min falls in love at first sight and finds out that Nanae attends the school to which he has just transferred. Their friendship develops fast despite their cultural and language difference. Yet when Min’s grandmother suddenly falls ill, Min hastily returns to Korea without having the time to explain Nanae the situation. After his grandmother regains her health, Min hurries back to Japan but Nane is nowhere to be found. Had his true feelings for Nanae not been apparent to her? Why has Nanae disappeared without a word? (wikipedia)

Miyazaki Aoi loves -disappearing- in movies eh? But do save yourself and watch Heavenly Forest instead!

My Thoughts
First of all, this movie is SUCH a blatant LJK vehicle and the only merit is the (probably unintentional) humour created from LJK’s “attempts” at speaking Japanese and Miyazaki’s “attempts” at speaking Korean (both examples should emphasize the word ATTEMPT). So the language barrier did do the film some good, the first quarter or so of the movie seems to emphasize how hard it was for them to communicate and this is probably the only good part because LJK and Miyazaki Aoi speaking broken English is undeniably funny. Plus, “NANAE!” is probably half of the Japanese words LJK’s character says.

Do we need another “pure love” movie? I thought that trend ended long ago but I guess I am wrong. I don’t actually hate these types of movies because there are quite a few good ones from this genre but from watching Virgin Snow I felt nothing sorry to say. The two main leads had no chemistry and with such a romance driven film this is really unappealing. Despite it sounding so, I don’t actually dislike LJK and I love Miyazaki Aoi so I was hoping for some good chemistry at the very least and it seems that I must say this phrase many times about VS but it disappointed me. I couldn’t care less for the outcome of the movie or the future of these two characters or the troubles they encountered.

Speaking of these “complications” I don’t get how they really FIT into the movie, it seems that they were there for the sake of separating the “lovers” so that we could have some tearful reunion later on and because of this I felt absolutely no sympathy for the characters whatsoever. The whole movie though is sugarly sweet, decay-causing sweet corniness which made me gasp and go “KKHHHHUUUUUHHHHH”, in a bad way though, is that what drinking soju feels like? People (in dramas at least) are always like you have to say “KKKKKKHHHUHHHH” to get rid of the bitterness, I guess I got rid of the sweetness that way. Honestly, people know me for being an unbashful fan of fluffy, romantic scenes/ stories but VS was honestly OVERKILL, even for me.

I lie when I say that the language barrier is the only merit, the scenery is also beautiful. Shot in both Japan and Korea so I expect no less, also the cast is good eye candy but by no means candy for the mind with such a mindless plot and equally mindless script. But if you are satisfied with great scenery and a good-looking cast then by all means watch Virgin Snow. But I guess that’s it.

Final Judgment
3 out of 10, I have a pretty good attention span and almost never skip or fast forward in dramas/ movies but Virgin Snow kind of forced me to. Bluntly, if you’re not a LJK or Miyazaki fan you’ll find very, very little entertainment in this movie. The most extreme fans of the cast can up the score but honestly, this was a waste of my downloads.

I think the story got nowhere and I would be ready to forgive the movie if the romance side of it was actually good but yeh, it was a disappointment.

I watched this because of the two character, Lee Jun Ki and Aoi Miyazaki.
But I was disappointed in the movie, it was a bit boring and storyline is too simple.
And I definitely say that Jun Ki doesn’t suit as being a student.
