2008 in review [mooray]

Because I’m lacking creativity on how to present my end of year post I’ll just do a countdown of my 8 favourite things of the year. 8 for ’08? Man am I witty or what? There’s no better way to end a year than a tl;dr post.

EIGHT – Going to America and all the wank that comes with it -

Breaking into the American market seems to be the answer and I really wish that it would stop being the answer. (Give me an example where it REALLY worked in the music?). I’m not xenophobic but consumer America sure is. I just wonder if Perez Hilton’s pimping of the Wonder Girls will ever do anything.

The real reason for this being on the list, I love engrish so bad. Chicken breasts you know, beavers whatever. I can take it all and then some so my wish for this to stop was a lie. Please, export more people over to the West. I wish we had a clone machine so we can have more of this… if you got all the engrish references here you’ve been reading gossip blogs and wasting your time too much.

SE7EN- Anime –

This year, I have to admit, might be the last in my anime following years (following, I probably will still watch the odd series or two). I finished even less anime series than drama series and I probably started more (small file size, go figure). I concentrated on watching rom-com series’ this year because that is all I can bloody keep my attention on lately. Honestly, I can count all the new series’ I finished on the tips of my fingers so there’s only one clear winner for me this year.

ITAZURA NA KISS! That itself warrants 8th place. For half a year without fail I anticipated each and every episode of Itazura na Kiss, it was probably the only series that I didn’t force myself to finish. I wanted to watch it every week, it just got better and better. Not a groundbreaking mind-fuck anime by ANY means but my favourite in a while.

SIX – JE fucking scandals -

Talking about the scandals, in Korea they’re terribly lame (and actually sensible) when compared to scandals in Japan. JE takes the cake because shit gets written about them every day and part of the reason why I still keep up with JE is because the scandals are some of the funniest things you will ever read. (My favourite source of ~*scandal*~ goes to uwasako’s LJ, seriously some of the most entertaining things ever get posted here)

From my memory: Kame is a cross-dresser and likes making out “passionately” with fellow cross-dressers, Kusano will join KAT-TUN, JE aren’t totally gay and go on dates, Kame has fights with Taxi drivers, everyone does threesomes and pot, Subaru is a jerk, nobody knows who Shige is and the kitchen sink. (No KAT-TUN bias here, they just have A LOT of rumours and their stories are funnier) Oh, Junno hangs out with gangsters, I love it

FIVE- Dramas (Image only for evee)-

To be honest, of all the dramas made this year, pretty much none have been inducted into my drama hall of fame. This is also because I didn’t finish many dramas this year. I have become the queen of starting dramas and never finishing them. The ratio of unfinished to finished dramas? Somewhere close to 4:1? I probably only finished 15 or so new dramas this year and it wouldn’t be an overestimate to say I started 60. I dropped a whole lot of dramas this year probably not because they were bad but because I am just really bad at finishing things I start, I would love to finish a few (Who Are You?, CHANGE, My Sweet Seoul, Painter of the Wind to mention a few) but I’m just really bad at it even if I liked the dramas.

NOTABLE dramas this year – Love Marriage (rom-com), Rookies (sport/ hard-core students who become friends), Code Blue (the only medical drama I finished), Hong Gil Dong (addictive, unsatisfying), Last Friends (mind-fuck), Bara no Nai Hanaya (romance/ drama) and East of Eden (the mammoth I’m trying to tackle).

FOUR – Nobody but ‘chu -

According to iTunes, Nobody was my 6th most listened to song released in 2008 (The list goes Only You, Flowerpot (Alex vers), 10 Points, Kimi Meguru Boku, Memory (Rap vers) then Nobody). 6th but the reason why it’s on this list is because I know the dance (actually, I know a lot of dances) and because the song could be remixed and remixed and so far, I love every version. Bringing us the tango, 5 in 1, rainstone remix and the normal version (I’m sure you’ve heard the last two), all with their own list of merits. (I really do love this song).

THREE – Hair, so much of it -

Some people this year seem to be stuck in some kind of bad hair day hurricane concentrated purely in the city of idol bands. First, the wind-swept boys who have applied too much hair gel. Taemin gets double privileges because he also gets with the next best thing, the shroom/ TV box/ bucket/ bowl/ whatever you call it. Personally it’s not my type of hair and for me this hairstyle stops working when you’re 5 years old. But hey, whatever floats your boat. Feel free to drop by and inform me of other notable hairstyles I may have missed.

TWO – We Got Married -

Even if it’s in a slump and even if I haven’t caught up for the past weeks there is no denial that for the first 25 or so episodes of We Got Married I was pretty much obsessed with the show. Memorable moments, cringe-worthy sweetness and a few teary scenes make for good variety and WGM is just that. Ant couple and lettuce couple will never be forgotten as my favourites but Don Don/ Saori, Hwi Jae/ Yeo Jeong (I actually liked them), AnBi and AlShin also hold places in my books as the “pioneers” (I still haven’t gotten into the new couples). With Kangin and Junjin (I think) as the next couples (not together obviously) superficial reasons suggest that I’m going to start enjoying WGM again. As soon as I get uncapped I’m catching up I tell you.

ONE – Introducing 2P-eh-eh-eh-em -

Obvious answer, I don’t think that I can coherently explain 2PM in fewer than 500 words so… I won’t try to.

Let’s just say now my mind is totally gone, 2PM will be the death of me. If you don’t like them yet then, that’s your loss, what are you waiting for? Get into the gay! Pig kissing, boy kissing, butt slapping fun, ah man, this band has ruined what little innocence I had left. They also like to jump around a lot, or people like to jump around.

Goodbye to 2008, we’ll miss you (If I don’t come back then know that I’ve become a good student). Here’s to 2009, give me a few more dances to learn.
