After a 9 month hiatus, the 9 member girl band Girls’ Generation have returned with a mini album with their number one song Gee. The album consists of 5 tracks, including Gee, Way to go, Dear Mum, Destiny and Lets talk about love.
My Thoughts:
If you haven’t bought this album yet then you are missing out – it comes with a 40 page booklet although I must admit I haven’t gotten my album yet I shall be coming soon! Anyways onto the review – Seriously, I don’t mind Girls’ Generation and Kissing You as well as Baby – Baby but gee after 8 months of hearing just those three songs I’m seriously excited that the girls are back with a new song.
Track 1 : Gee
Basically in this song SNSD proves that you can sing a catchy song without the quality of your vocals downgrading and seriously, though I must admit that the girls’ vocals aren’t noticeably impressive compared to other songs I must admit that their vocals haven’t aren’t as bad for this type of song. I’m pretty sure that those who have listened to Gee at least once would not have such a great impression about it but I can guarantee you if you listen to it a few times it will definitely grow on you. The beat is addictive and the lyrics are definitely catchy ~ I wonder how long I’ll be sing ‘Gee Gee Gee Gee Gee’ for and also, the adlibs at the end were awesome.
Track 2: Way to go
I love Haptic Motion, I actually hoped that when they come back this would’ve been their comeback song, but I’m glad that they added this to their album and will probably be promoting this song as well. Seriously the song is basically like Haptic Motion, just longer so I shall just quote something from my Haptic Motion review.
The electric guitar and drum beats in the background makes the song all the catchier, you can play air guitar to this and go mad/jumping around and all. Oh the influence of TV! Definitely a song to listen out for.
Track 3: Dear Mum
I’m definitely a sucker for ballads and this song was definitely amazing. Like the title states this song is a dedication to their mothers and the song is definitely sad but very sweet. Their vocals were definitely not showcased until this track from Taeyeon to Seohyun all of the girls did well, hitting all the high notes, the amazing harmonising, the melody is just soothing but I must mention the emotions in their vocals you can definitely feel how sincere they were with this song.
Track 4: Destiny
Apparently this song falls into the category of SMP – something related to the music that only SM artists have and other examples of SMP are songs like DBSK’s Rising Sun and BoA’s Girls on top. Although this song isn’t one of my favourites on the track, it’s definitely a song to listen out for considering how different this song is compared to their past songs.
Track 5: Lets talk about love
This song has definitely grown on me since listening to it the past few days. I love the beat and the melody and the girls singing amazing as always. This is song actually makes me think of something S.E.S would have had done during their time, the song definitely has SNSD written all over it.
Final Judgment:
4.5 out of 5: I didn’t like Destiny that’s why there was the 0.5 lost. But I actually loved 4/5 songs that I seriously can’t seem to put the track list in any order. Definitely worth listening to.
I like their album. I remember singing Tiffany & Jessica’s intro of Gee while you were listening to it & you got annoyed. heh.
Urhhh, I think Mary and I are gonna learn the dance?
^ ROFL! Not necessarily annoyed more like it was awkward. I just sorta cringed. Also I can’t imagine you guys dancing to this song but what the hay :D
Woo.. Plastic girls are out again …
Agreed tat even their voice and personality sucks but the songs are still good .. Such pity ..
^ Like you said about DBSK I shall same the same for the girls – Why not research more about them?
Don’t ask me if there’s any sarcasm in that comment. No seriously.
love their songs here especially gee and Himnae (Way to Go)
i luv the album all though i cant afford to buy it i downloaded all the tracks on a burnt disk ^^ i luv gee but jessicas voice always sounds weird to me expecially the LIsten boy part in gee i always cringe. but the high voices match the song and it sounds good =) another problem is that long note somebody does in himnae (i just got into snsd) its all over the place OooOOooOoOoo and it sounds bad! O_O
good album other wise
I love Gee and dear Mom..
