I was supposed to review Pretty Girl when it was released… oops.
So this is like a re-release of Pretty Girl or something but idrk and cbb to find out. After gaining popularity with Pretty Girl Kara are back to promote a song from that mini album – Honey and it gets it’s own special release (? idk, no research, w.e) with other of their remixed songs.
My Thoughts
I always thought Honey was one of the better songs (along with My Darling) on the Pretty Girl release but with each listen I’m growing to like it more and more it’s actually become one of my favourite KARA songs now (but Break It still is pwnage). It’s quite an electronic song with lots of synth but what I like about Honey compared to say ROCK U or Pretty Girl (I stilll “like” those songs) is that it’s not a whole bunch of repeated choruses interspersed with random chants etc. It’s got structure which is a good thing. It also helps that the chorus is hella’ catchy. What’s different to the Pretty Girl ver. of this song to this version is that this one took out the chant in the bridge, I always thought that part was annoying anyway but I kind of want to say “SAY OH, HO-HO, AHA..” with Nicole each time :(.
(Random, it took me a long time to figure out what Nicole was saying at the part after the chorus).
YAY for What Is This. I had no idea what “Plastic” meant but apparently thats another term for electronica in this case. The song is very upbeat and the chorus is also hella catchy. I really like this song. I don’t know what to say, it’s a good pop song that stays memorable without being repetitive (+ points).
Pretty Girl (Bunny ver.) is a version of the song they performed to once? Correct me if I’m wrong. Again, more techno and electronic sounds, this version is very boppy and a marked improvement over the original if you ask me because there’s much more room for experimentation and instrumental breaks which is good since I like the backing track for this song. It’s quite weird and honestly I don’t know how to describe it but it… reminds me of Alice In Wonderland okay? (Maybe that was the intention)
I never liked Good Day and I don’t really like the Season 2 ver. of this song either. I mean it’s not bad by any means but it’s not special at all, unmemorable and forgettable (sans the doodoodoodoodoo part but that’s all I remember). Basically this song has more instruments and again a more electronic sound with a slightly faster pace but it’s still skip territory for me.
The School Rock ver. of Pretty Girl does what it promises. It gives it a rock sound but not by much, I mean adding a few guitar lines here and there and a stronger drum beat is not very inspired. It sounds pretty much the same as the original with a little pizzaz which is good I guess. The original became bland after a few listens on my ipod but this one seems a little (If only ever so little) more interesting. It’s still not great though.
And the version I downloaded (shh, copyright is out to get me) didn’t have the Ad-lib version of Honey which I really want to listen to so I’ll find that and be back!
Final Judgment
4 out of 5, I like 3 of the 5 songs so far, not bad. Ever since the “new” KARA (and boy I miss classic KARA with Sungja) I’d have to say this is the best release even if it’s just remixes. Vocals are not always great but these songs are good electronica pop songs, I can excuse that.
I really dont get all those versions with the Pretty GIrl song. For some reason all of my songs are labled wrong. Somehow the Good Day is the School Rock ver of Pretty Girl.
hahah nice choice of words DSP – Plastic Version/Bunny Version T_T. Meh I’m glad they left Honey the way it is…
