Baby cruising Love / Macaroni is Perfume’s sixth major label single, and eleventh overall. It was also their first double a-side single. Currently, this is their highest chart-topping single to date with a debut weekly position of #3 and 65,297 copies sold (2nd June).
My Thoughts
This single is the first Perfume material I’ve ever heard and this decision was based on two things: everyone says they are so cute and good and the fact that the cover looked pretty (yes, it’s true). Well, in these phrases I must have overlooked the phrase ‘techno’. I don’t usually listen to any techno let alone J-techno but since I already downloaded it I may as well listen to it.
Baby Cruising Love is … yes, J-Techno (obviously) with electronic voices and synth beats but what I like is the use of “real” instruments. The chorus of the song is very catchy and you could probably find yourself singing along in no time, catchy because it’s repeated in the song countless times (which helps it get stuck in your head). But I found it far from repetitive actually. I was surprised that I didn’t hate the song, it’s quite enjoyable :D.
Macaroni is the second A-side and it’s another techno song (lol, a bit obvious now) but with less distorted lyrics. The melody and lyrics overall are cuter than Baby Cruising love but teh chorus is repeated EVEN MORE times and it’s a little repetitive. Idk, Baby Cruising Love also had a repetitive melody but it just wasn’t as repetitive, doesn’t make sense, whatever.
Final Judgment
My first Perfume single gets a 3.5 out of 5, it’s catchy and a good start, I might just listen to more of their material.
Hey there! Lovely blog. Too bad I’m not a massive fan of Asian media… but I just might be now ;)
