Jang Sae Byuk is a a girl who tries to find a new meaning in life after she receives an eye cornea transplant from the doctor that took care of her after her accident. That doctor, Kim Na Young, died in a car accident on her way back from Africa. Sae Byuk becomes close with the Na Young’s family after finding them. The family slowly accepts her as part of the family. Kang Ho Se and Kim Tae Poong, Na Young’s twin brother, have disliked each other since they were young kids. This is mostly Tae Poong hates Ho Se because Ho Se’s family was rich and because Tae Poong’s father was Ho Se’s father’s driver and his mother was the maid (drama wiki).
I honestly did not anticipate this drama. Well I did but only for the fact being that I was an SNSD fan and watching it only for Yoona and even if so I wasn’t going to regularly watch because seriously 100 episodes who’s going to be bothered keeping up. Besides that, the cast seemed pretty unknown to be, it didn’t see, like it would appeal much of an audience. But boy is that wrong cause the ratings are over 20% and it’s been consistent either coming first or second
Anyways to the drama from the first episode truthfully was quite boring until about ¾ of the way through which was getting interesting. The viewers learn about the death of the girl in which JSB was soon to receive the eye transplant from and then we see how slowly each character intertwines into each other’s lives when the president’s wife (who is the mother of JSB love rival) pokes JSB in the eye with her umbrella and there she meets the male lead Hose by running out onto the road (in the rain – love the drama).
The second episode we discover that Kim Na Young (the girl that is shown dying/dead in the first episode) her family and so do many others besides her colleagues do not know about her death and assume that she is still in Africa. This is where JSB learns that her family or make that dad wants to see the organ receivers and with that gives JSB the determination to meet up with KNY family and JSB and HS meet up again this time in the bathroom.
The third episode shows HS confronting TaePoong about NaYoungs death but TP is confused because only the oldest brother and father knows about the death and being the hot headed TP slaps HS in which he starts bleeding (pfshh) harsh words are said and they leave. Episode four sees the family getting suss over the situation about a ring found in the dads office because it was NY’s. Episode five shows JSB finally meeting with the brother that knows of the death and in episode six she is told that the family still does not know.
Foolishly she still goes back in hope of at least leaving the fruit basket in front of the house but as she is about to leave she is caught by the mother and brother who assume she is TaeYoung (the older brothers) girlfriend. After talking and accusations she picks up her basket and leaves but drops everything (that was suprising) and reveals a card which according to the family had very disturbing words like thank you for your eyes etc. The mum stresses over the incident and the dad and older brother come home at that moment to reveal ‘SHE’S DEAD’ the mum obviously doesn’t believe and a train of events happens from there.
It’s evident that from the first episode it has got quite an interesting storyline already, without a doubt that every episode kept you on the edge of your seats as to whether or not the family was going to find out the secrets or not.
Yoona’s acting has not only impressed her fans themselves but even the older generation of Korean citizens have begun to keep a close eye on her acting. Her crying scenes are so believable adding to the scenes. It’s evident she cries when she needs to rather than a change of scene to where her eyes were dry and the next scene her eyes are red and wet. Her acting not only is it believable but it’s just plain natural, her scenes are never over-acted like those other dramas where the leads just try too hard to get attention, but it’s as if those events and emotions would be exactly portrayed if the events were happening in real life. Gotta watch out for her, she may be the next actress to hit your regular dramas!
Park Jae Jung can I say no offence to his fans but boy does he look old. I seriously thought he was already in his thirties. His expressions are so plain and dull, he’s got the same expression on whether he’s happy or sad. It gets a bit frustrating watching his naivety he’s like a mummy’s boy to be quite frank I haven’t seen anything interesting in his character. Even in episode 51 when he argues with his mother, his voice just stays in the same pitch and it’s so dull.
Lee Ji Hoon has turned me into a massive fan of this drama and therefore is making me root for JSB and TP pairing! Even though it’s less likely, his expressions though always seems as if he is annoyed in which his character is, he is pretty natural in terms of facial expressions, it doesn’t seem stiff or as if he is acting to hard and yet again him and JSB just make such an adorable couple their personalities match so well and even though he is truthfully older than the main lead by one year he doesn’t even look it making me approve so much more of the coupling!
Gong Hyun Joo as much as I hate her character she’s a pretty decent in terms of acting to me nothing too special (or maybe I’m just biased) she always seems to be in distress or something and that’s the only expression that you see besides that fake and really bitchy sorta look /smile that she has at times. You do feel for her character eventually and only a little bit I guess.
Those are the four characters that I guess the story revolves around. Seriously besides YoonA and Ji Hoon all of the other characters peeve the hell outta me. Hose’s mother is a biatch BIG TIME followed very closely by SooBin’s mother, their characters just get on my nerves all of the time especially when SB’s mum just whinges and whines and Hose’s mother just continuously butts into her son’s personal affairs. Then there’s the ‘friend’ at the beginning of the movie who comes back during the late 40’s episode. Don’t get me started on her…
There are quite a few plots going on at once with each of the family members or characters in the story but it doesn’t get confusing cause it somewhat relates to each other so despite if you’re not a fan of the leads there’s a likely chance they may not even appear for a long period of time in one episode. Thing’s such as the older female and younger male relationship how their parents object (personally I’ve enjoyed that part of the drama most), the mothers and their feuding/bitching with each other, the love square with the leads and other family affairs.
Overall: 4 out of 5 – an honest result despite all. This drama really keeps you on the edge of your seats as and definitely gets you hooked with new twists and turns and what not.
Will post caps once I’m uncapped…
