I’ve finally found time to watch the first episode of Moonlight Resonance. Heart Of Greed captivated me and I hoped Moonlight Resonance would as well. Following the hype and popularity of HOG, MR uses a similar A-lister cast and a similar storyline to start a fresh and try to live up to it’s sister series.

BTW, I didn’t like the song at first but the more i listen to it, the more meaningful and dramatic it gets :D
Another BTW, at 42 second, that scene looked super emotional, it’s Fala, she’s mute and she’s crying.
Oooh yeah, the scene were it repeatedly showed them falling down for like 8 seconds, dramatic much?
The drama started off in 1996. It then went back to 2008. Then 1978. Then 1996. Back to 2008. THENN 1996. AND FINALLY 2008. I know right, the transformation between time got pretty confusing if you missed a glance when they showed the time period or something. However, although the transformation might have seemed a bit confusing but the main aim of this episode was to get everything across:
- Ha Yu and Louise Lee were a couple with six children and runs a Mooncake store business, the youngest child is a mute girl (Fala) while another one of their daughters is not blood related (Tavia) and was “found” therefore they raised her up.
- Michelle Yim breaks into their marriage (she has her own daughter which is Linda Chung from her before marriage) and forces Louise Lee and Ha Yu to get a divorce and splits the kids, Ha Yu keeping Chris Lai, Moses Chan, Vincent Wan while Louise keeps Tavia, Raymond and Fala.
- Goon Ga Jai (Raymond Lam) and Yu So Chau’s (Linda Chung) relationship during their teenage/kiddo years.
The first episode was filled with tears, pulling, slapping, pushing, falling, screaming and seldom laughing. Through the first episode, we can already grasp the tension between the “two” families and the fight for money, love and their kids.
Because most of the first episode was set mostly in 1996, the “7 children” were played by kids instead of the 2008 version, where the A-lister casts surfaced. I must say, even though in the crying scenes, there was no tears from the kids, those kids still played their characters really well.
The 2008 children of Ha Yu and Louise Lee that have been shown (Tavia Yeung, Fala Chen, Raymond Lam) all seem to be loving and cute. They seem happy with what they have and how they live, although they could have been really rich if they were in the ‘other’ part of the family but they are happy with what they have and who they have.
Jo Bao (Ha Yu) seemed to play a character that was really similar to his of Heart Of Greed. Through the first episode, we can see that he seems to be the one that doesn’t really know how to speak up and will just listen to whatever his wives says. Although he might be the “head” of the family, he seems to lack the father-ness qualities as well as the husband qualities.
I’m all for happy families :’)
Hor Ma (Louise Lee) seems to be the mother that every kid needs. She’s loving and forgiving, although she knew Hong Jie (Michelle Yim) was having an affair with her husband, she kept her thoughts and feelings to herself, not because she was scared, but because she didn’t want that to affect her children.
Go home evil lady and bring that hideous wig of yours while your at it.
Hong Jie (Michelle Yim) plays the villian everybody loves to hate. From her 1996 transformation to 2008 (one scene only of her though), you can really see her “evilness” and ignorance which is portrayed by her ugly wig.
Sa Yi (Susanna Kwan) is so annoying already! Okay, maybe not that annoying but she has so much to complain and talk about! She reminds me of her character in Heart Of Greed but the character she is portraying now seems to be a bit of a light relief to all the tension within the first episode.
Even though only half the cast has appeared in the first episode, I am already grasping the overall plot and tension between the two families. It is definitely not as exaggerated and silly unlike when Heart Of Greed started off and I am excited to see the rest of the cast and the siblings relations. I’m positive that this series will just get better and better and I am so pumped to continue watching it! If you have been a HOG fan and decide crazily that you will not watch Moonlight Resonance for *insert reason*, you don’t know what your missing out on! First episode gave me great impressions ;DDDD
Or should i say dramatic much?
